As part of Gulf Drilling International’s commitment to the development of its Qatari employees, a number of trainees were recently recognized for their high performance and positive work attitude. They started their journey in GDI with an orientation in September 2007, in the Capability Assessment Program (CAP). On completion, the first batch of trainees then embarked on a three-year training program.
The Qatari trainees received technical and operational training, focussing mainly on mechanical, electrical, HSE and drilling aspects of GDI’s operations. During the program, the trainees’ attitude, interest and capabilities were monitored in order to evaluate their readiness to move onto the next phase of the program - Career Development Plans (CDP). This phase prepared the trainees for four positions on the rigs: Health & Safety Officer, Assistant Driller, Chief Mechanic and Chief Electrician.
The CDP is divided into three phases and is a full-time program. After completing the technical training, each of the trainees worked on one of GDI’s rigs.
GDI is pleased to have this batch of successful young Qataris and is committed to further recruitment and development of nationals, to reach its target level of nationalization.
