GDI hosts DOIRC meeting
GDI hosted the 24th meeting of DOIRC (Drilling Operations Incident Review Committee) recently. The first meeting was held on March 15, 2001 with QP contractors and service companies. Today, this has grown to include all drilling companies in Qatar.
DOIRC’s objective is to review incidents, improve safety performance, promote safety awareness and demonstrate commitment to safety. It also provides an opportunity to promote lateral learning, generate active discussion, share best practices and provide positive feedback to emphasize safety in the work place, with an ultimate objective of achieving zero incidents.
Information sharing is crucial and benefits everyone. In the past a certain amount of skepticism prevailed, as far as information sharing was concerned. But today, everyone understands and fathoms the importance of having sufficient knowledge about hazardous situations from a past experience, always benefits others who can learn and as a result, be cautious. This can potentially save lives.
The eventual goal is to prevent the occurrence of accidents. Companies all over the world share accident information through IADC safety alerts, from which every member learns and shares with their respective teams.
The last DORIC was hosted by NOBLE.
